Since 2008, we’ve conducted countless Examinations Under Oath (EUOs), and along the way, we’ve uncovered consistent patterns—what we now call EUO demand indicators. These are scenarios or behaviors that arise during the claims process, signaling when an EUO may be necessary.

While many claims professionals focus on fraud indicators, EUO demand indicators are different. They often go unnoticed because they don’t always suggest outright fraud. Instead, they may reflect efforts to manipulate a claim or prevent the company from fully understanding the situation.​

  • Information Gaps: Scenarios where essential documentation or clarity is missing, hindering the claims process.

The more indicators present in a claim, the more likely it is that someone is attempting to manipulate the outcome.

In our experience, these indicators often emerge during the claims process but are overlooked because they don’t fit the standard fraud profile. However, recognizing them can help claims professionals:
